On 22 March 2003 the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards returned to Iraq as part of Operation Telic. At the end of the month C Squadron took part in a mission codenamed 'James' in the Basra suburb of Abu al-Khasib. The attack was the first time Royal Marines had fought alongside British armour since the Second World War. In April the regiment's battle group joined the assault on Basra itself with the Black Watch infantry. Scots Dragoon Guards were deployed to Iraq again in 2005 and for a final tour in 2008.
