With the Act of Union in 1707, the Royal Regiment of Scots Dragoons was renamed the 'Royal Regiment of North British Dragoons'. John Dalrymple the 2nd Earl of Stair was the first Colonel of the Royal North British Dragoons. The regiment was renumbered as the 2nd Dragoons in 1713.
