Prince William Visits Edinburgh for the Ceremony of Keys

On 21 May 2021 His Royal Highness Prince William, Earl of Strathearn, opened his visit to Scotland as Lord High Commissioner at the Ceremony of Keys in Edinburgh.

The Ceremony of Keys occurs when the Queen (or official representative) visits Edinburgh in an official capacity. This occurs at least twice a year, usually around the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and the start of Holyrood or Royal Week in June.

HRH Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, was in Scotland on the Queens behalf as the Lord High Commissioner to mark the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. At the Palace of Holyrood house HRH Prince William was offered the Keys to the City of Edinburgh by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Frank Ross, before inspecting the ceremonial troops.

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Pipes and Drums were on parade, along with soldiers from 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (5 SCOTS) and the SCOTS Band.
